Doug
Kempton, Founding Director of Eagle Sports Club, had a vision of using
sports as an outreach to children. That vision became reality in the Spring
’99 when ESC launched its 1st soccer league at Balduck Park on Detroit’s
eastside.
Following the Spring & Summer soccer programs offered in ’99, it was obvious
that there was an incredible void in the way of recreational sports programs
being offered in the community. This was evidenced by the 200 children
that enrolled. Surely as Eagle Sports Club’s program gained momentum,
the numbers would grow! And they have . . .
ESC’s Growth Since Inception
Spring 1999 - ESC’s 1st Soccer League • 65 children served
July 1999 - ESC Received its 501c (nonprofit) status
Fall 1999 - ESC’s 2nd Soccer League • 145 children served
2005 - ESC served more than 1800 children
- $60,000 invested
in building 4 baseball diamonds
- Programs offered
outdoor/indoor soccer, baseball and flag football
Projection for 2005
-Eagle Sports Club will serve over 2000 children in six different
leagues, 3 skill development camps, Send 50 children to Kids
Across America in Branson Missouri, and have Over 40 children participating
in SOAR our after school literacy program.
